International Day for Protection of Children

June 1 is celebrated as International Day for Protection of Children all over the world. International Day for Protection of Children was established on June 1, 1950, by the UN General Assembly. At the International Women's Conference held on the same day, suggestions were made to ensure the rights of children. At that event, 1 June was established as the International Day for Protection of Children. Besides this holiday, World Children’s Day was established in 1954 as Universal Children's Day and is celebrated on 20 November each year to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving children's welfare.

Public figure, politician and statesman Jamo bey Hajinski

Jamo bey Suleiman oglu Hajinski was born on June 14, 1888 in Guba. He was a public and political figure, publicist, theater critic and art critic. Jamo bey was the brother of Mehdi-bey Hajinski, the secretary of the ADR (Azerbaijan Democratic Republic) parliament. In 1912, Jamo bey graduated from the law faculty of Imperial St. Petersburg University. In 1907-1915 he was a correspondent and employee of the newspaper "Caspian. In 1914-1915, he became the commissioner of the Committee for Muslim Refugees in the Batumi province and Primorsky District, which provided assistance to victims during the First World War (1914-1918).

National Salvation Day

There are days of great significance in the fortune of the Azerbaijani people, which paved the way for important beginnings and determined its future. The most important of such days is June 15 - National Salvation Day, written in golden letters in our history. National Salvation Day is not just an ordinary calendar holiday for the Azerbaijani people, it is a day of great social, political and historical significance. June 15 is the true date of our nation’s salvation. The creator of this history is Heydar Aliyev, who played an exceptional role in preserving, strengthening and developing of independence of Azerbaijan, always relying on his people.

Human Rights Day in the Republic of Azerbaijan

June 18 is celebrated in the Republic of Azerbaijan as Human Rights Day, according to a decree on the annual celebration of the date signed on June 18, 2007 by President Ilham Aliyev. The measure was preceded by the approval of the “State Program on the Protection of Human Rights” on June 18, 1998 by Azerbaijani National Leader, Heydar Aliyev. Since then the support of human rights became one of the main priorities of state policy and June 18 has been marked as Human Rights Day in the country.

World Refugee Day

Each year on 20 June, the world celebrates World Refugee Day, the international day to honour people who have been forced to flee. The day was decided by the United Nations General Assembly on June 20. The resolution 55/76 was adopted on December 4, 2000. The purpose of this day was to remember the difficult living conditions of refugees and internally displaced people driven from their homes and to prevent their numbers from increasing. Refugee day plays a significant role in understanding the refugees who are going through various challenges on a regular basis. Every year, Azerbaijan celebrates International Refugee Day.

Prominent scientist, first Secretary of State of Azerbaijan Tofig Ismayilov

Tofiq Kazym oglu Ismayilov was born on June 21, 1933 in Baku. Having successfully graduated from school in 1951, he entered the Moscow Electrotechnical Institute of Communications (now the Moscow Technical University of Communications and Informatics, abbreviated as MTUCI). In 1956, he graduated from the institute and began working at a closed enterprise of the military-industrial complex in Moscow, where he rose to the rank of the section manager in a short time. Tofiq Ismayilov, who actively participates in the social and political life of Moscow, was elected as a deputy of the Frunze District Council of Moscow. In 1959 he entered graduate school in Moscow.

Professional Holiday of Civil Servants

June 23 is celebrated as the professional holiday of civil servants in Azerbaijan. This holiday was set up by the decree of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on the establishment of the professional holiday of civil servants dated May 25, 2006". The United Nations General Assembly designated 23 June as Public Service Day in 2003, by adopting a resolution dated December 20, 2002. In that resolution, the member states of the UN were recommended to establish a special day to better highlight the contribution of public service in the development process of states.

Armed Forces Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan

The foundation of the Internal Troops of the Republic of Azerbaijan was laid by the Parliament of ADR , the first Democratic Republic in the East in 1919. It was decided at the meeting of the State Committee of the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan on 10 June 1919, to organize a military service for the citizens of Baku and people living in the territories of its districts. The Declaration of Independence of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic adopted on May 28, 1918 stated that Azerbaijan had to have a strong and disciplined army, create its own armed forces in order to be able to defend itself against any foreign invasion and neutralize its enemies within the country.

Declaration of the Azerbaijani (Turkish) language as the state language of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic

Language policy in Azerbaijan dates to the period of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. Until that time (either in the 19th century or especially in the early 20th century), prominent Azerbaijani intellectuals had expressed certain opinions and made assumptions about the native language, and the linguistic processes taking place in Azerbaijan. However, the official declaration of the Turkish language as the state language on June 27, 1918, just a month after the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, was the result of the direct influence of the national ideology defined in the late 19th century and early 20th century.

Lieutenant General Huseyn Khan Nakhchivanski

Lieutenant-General Huseyn khan Kalbali khan oglu Nakhchivanski was born on June 28, 1863, in Nakhchivan. He was the son of Kalbali khan Nakhchivanski and the grandson of Ehsan khan Kangarli. His father was a major general of the Russian army. Therefore, he sent his son - fifteen-year-old Huseyn khan - to study at the Paj Corps school in Petersburg. This school was under the personal patronage of the emperor. Huseyn khan graduated from that school in 1881 with honours and served in the tsar's special cavalry. From March 1885 through May 1886, second lieutenant Khan Nakhchivanski was sent to the 43rd Tver Dragoon Regiment, on August 30, 1887, he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant.
