Public figure, politician and statesman Jamo bey Hajinski

Jamo bey Suleiman oglu Hajinski was born on June 14, 1888 in Guba. He was a public and political figure, publicist, theater critic and art critic. Jamo bey was the brother of Mehdi-bey Hajinski, the secretary of the ADR (Azerbaijan Democratic Republic) parliament. In 1912, Jamo bey graduated from the law faculty of Imperial St. Petersburg University. In 1907-1915 he was a correspondent and employee of the newspaper "Caspian.  In 1914-1915, he became the commissioner of the Committee for Muslim Refugees in the Batumi province and Primorsky District, which provided assistance to victims during the First World War (1914-1918). Hajinski participated in the work of the cultural and educational society "Nijat", was one of the founders of the Muslim Dramatic Society (1916) and the Azerbaijan Archaeological Society (1917).

In July 1917, he was elected deputy chairman of the Transcaucasian Central Executive Committee of the Council of Peasant Deputies, and as a representative from the South Caucasus was appointed chairman of the Transcaucasian Central Commission for Elections to the All-Russian Constituent Assembly.

Jamo bey Hajinski was a member of the Muslim faction of the Transcaucasian Seim, and after the dissolution of the Seim (May 26, 1918), he became a member of the newly formed Azerbaijan National Council (May 27, 1918). Hajinski was one of the signatories of the Act of State Independence of Azerbaijan - the Declaration of Independence, which was adopted at a meeting of the National Council of Azerbaijan in Tiflis, and one of the members of the National Council who voted for independence (May 28, 1918).

Jamo bey Hajinsky became a member of Parliament in accordance with the "Law on the Formation of the Azerbaijani Parliament" of the National Council of Azerbaijan dated November 19, 1918.

He held the position of state controller in the first government cabinet of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, was the Minister for Post and Telegraph in the 4th and 5th government cabinets (April 1919 - March 1920). Hajinski has special merits in the development of communications in the republic.

Jamo bey Hajinski gave lectures on Azerbaijani art in the "Turkish Motherland" society (1918), was published in the Azerbaijani and Russian press under the signature "Gubaly". He wrote articles and reviews on the plays of Uzeyir Hajibayli, as well as Najaf bey Vezirov and others. His poems were published in the pamphlets "Folk Songs" (1919-1920).

After the April occupation of 1920, Jamo bey Hajinski was appointed head of the administrative and financial department at the People's Commissariat of Justice, continued his activities in the field of culture and education. He took an active part in the work of the "Society for Research and Study of Azerbaijan", was engaged in the protection of the monuments of ancient culture. Jamo bey was arrested on April 21, 1922, and after 3 years in prison he was sent to the Solovki special camp (Arkhangelsk region, Russia). He was released in June 1928 and returned to Baku, from July of the same year he became the secretary of the planning department of the republican union of agricultural cooperation (“Koybirliyi”), and then held the position of the head of the department there. Hajinski worked in the “Azerittifak” system from November 1933, and a year later he was transferred to the position of chief consultant in industrial cooperation. In January 1937, he was dismissed due to the abolition of this position, and on November 24, 1938, he was arrested and exiled again. He died in 1942 in the Vyatka correctional labor camp of the Kirov region.

On June 13, 1956, Jamo bey Hajinski was acquitted by the military collegium of the Supreme Court of the USSR.
