The International Music Day is celebrated on October 1. Music is the greatest invention of mankind, which has existed on earth for thousands of years. This unique cultural language is an integral part of people's self-expression, it reflects the cultural traditions and customs of different peoples.
The International Music Day was organized by the International Music Council under UNESCO on 1st of October, 1975, in accordance with the resolution taken at the 15th General Assembly in Lausanne in 1973. Every year on October 1, concerts with the participation of brilliant musicians and artists are held in all countries, unusual, unique pearls of the world's musical treasure are performed.
The purpose of the International Music Day is cultural exchange, strengthening friendship between different peoples, mutual enrichment of cultures, mutual respect for the aesthetic values of different communities, realization of the ideals of peace and friendship, since the language of music is simple and understandable for everyone, regardless of nationality and language affiliation.
Acquaintance of mankind with music began in ancient times. Rock paintings discovered in African caves depict people holding musical instruments. In 2000, Chinese archaeologists discovered a 2,000-year-old museum of musical instruments.
The history of music in Azerbaijan also goes back to ancient times. Gavaldash is a musical instrument used by people who lived in the Stone Age in Gobustan. Scenes of the ancient Azerbaijani dance "Yalli" are depicted on the rocks of Gobustan.
Free access to many musical works via the Internet, modern means of recording and playing music make it more accessible, and new multimedia capabilities allow you to listen to and watch musicians’ performances on more advanced media.
Today, Azerbaijani music is experiencing a period of real prosperity, it occupies a unique place in the world music culture. The international music festivals and various competitions that are constantly held in our country, generally serve to popularize Azerbaijani culture and Azerbaijani music on a wider scale.
Every year on October 1 on International Music Day, as well as all over the world, in Azerbaijan concerts are organized in many cultural centers, concert halls, cultural houses, libraries, museums, interesting events are held, works of world-famous artists are heard, and world musical instruments are introduced creative meetings with composers, performers, musicologists are held, thematic exhibitions, educational events are organized.
All this contributes to the goal of spreading music as an art in a variety of communities, expanding the knowledge of people, and especially the younger generation, about various cultural environments, layers, and traditions of society.
