Aziz Mammadkarim oglu Aliyev was born on January 1, 1897, in Iravan. He received his primary education in Iravan at the boarding house of Abdulla bey Muganlinski. In 1917, after graduating from the Iravan gymnasium with a gold medal, he entered the Military Medical Academy in St. Petersburg. In connection with the massacres committed by Armenians in Iravan in 1918, Aziz Aliyev was forced to take his family to the village of Shakhtakhty in Nakhchivan, and from there to Iran. In 1921, he again returned to the village of Shakhtakhty, where he worked for two years as a doctor's assistant. In May 1923, Aziz Aliyev moved to Baku and began working in the Council of People's Commissars. At the same time, he was educated at the Medical Institute, from which he graduated in 1927.
Aziz Aliyev was repeatedly elected as a deputy to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, RSFSR, Azerbaijan SSR, Dagestan ASSR. He was also awarded orders and medals. Aziz Aliyev died on July 27, 1962 and was buried in the Alley of Honor. Several streets in Azerbaijan and Dagestan were named after him.
His daughter, Zarifa Aliyeva, was an Honored Scientist of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Doctor of Medical Sciences, full member of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan. Mrs Zarifa Aliyeva, the great leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev’s spouse and the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev’s mother, died on April 15, 1985, in Moscow. In 1994, her grave was transported from the Novodevichy cemetery in Moscow to Baku and buried in the Alley of Honor, next to her father's grave.
The eldest son of Aziz Aliyev, Tamerlan Aliyev, is a Doctor of Medical Sciences, professor. He was a chief therapist of the republic. For a long time, he oversaw the Department of Internal Medicine at the Medical University and was also chairman of the council for the defense of dissertations. He died on April 7, 1997 and was buried in Baku in the Alley of Honor.
His youngest son, Jamil Aliyev, is a Doctor of Medical Sciences, a professor, a full member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, an honored worker of science. Jamil Aliyev is the head of the Special Medical Service of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the general director of the National Oncology Center. Academician Jamil Aliyev's scientific works are widely spread not only in our republic, but also beyond its borders, and have earned the author fame.
