Nakhchivan branch of the Military Lyceum named after Jamshid Nakhchivanski

The National Leader Heydar Aliyev has always paid special attention to the training of qualified military personnel in his army-building strategy. Yet since the times of the Soviet Union, the Baku Primary Military School named after Jamshid Nakhchivanski was founded in 1971. On November 24, 1997, the school was renamed as the Military Lyceum named after Jamshid Nakhchivanski by order of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev.

Units of the National Army were first formed in Nakhchivan during Heydar Aliyev’s tenure as Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. Shortly after Heydar Aliyev’s return to power in our country for the second time, there were taken more extensive measures to build the national army, which led to the formation of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Nakhchivan branch of Military Lyceum named after Jamshid Nakhchivanski was established by order of March 13, 1998 of National Leader Heydar Aliyev.

On 13 October 1999 and 17 June 2002, National Leader Heydar Aliyev met with personnel of the Military Lyceum and delivered a speech providing valuable recommendations to all participants.

By the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated February 27, 2004, the Nakhchivan branch of the Military Lyceum named after Jamshid Nakhchivanski was abolished and on its basis, the Military Lyceum named after Heydar Aliyev was established.

On 19 December 2005, during his visit to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev visited the Heydar Aliyev Military Lyceum in Nakhchivan city and addressed to cadets of the lyceum.

The Military Lyceum named after Heydar Aliyev is a paramilitary secondary educational institution. Covering an area of 4.5 hectares, the lyceum comprises the education section and the dormitory with 750 seats, a staff building, a canteen, a hospital, a gymnasium and training grounds. The academic building has rooms for physics, chemistry, computer, biology, history, mathematics, geography, literature and a library.

Students who have graduated from the 9th grade, who reached 15 years old and are under the age of 17, take test exams in Mathematics, Physics, the Azerbaijani language and Chemistry, organized by the State Examination Center. The term of study at the military lyceum is 2 years. During 2 training years, 13 subjects are taught to cadets according to the curriculum approved by the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan. In lyceum, cadets, in parallel with the study of general subjects, develop their abilities in military training and sports classes.
