The establishment of the Academy of the State Security Service named after Heydar Aliyev, one of the important state institutions, is directly related to the name of the national leader Heydar Aliyev. The Academy was established by the Order of the national leader Heydar Aliyev No. 37 dated December 1, 1998.

Having clearly defined that education plays an indispensable role in the construction of an independent state, Heydar Aliyev, as a result of his rich creative heritage, state policy and activities, preserved the national character of the Azerbaijani education system.

The national leader spent 25 years of his life in the state security bodies of the republic, impeccably serving in this difficult, responsible and honorable field, going from an ordinary employee to the chairman of the State Security Committee and receiving the rank of general. The great leader Heydar Aliyev, setting the direction for the development of education, not only created a state security system, but also effectively and efficiently regulated the processes taking place in society and our state as a whole. By the decree signed on December 20, 2005 by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Ilham Aliyev, who honorably continues the work of national leader Heydar Aliyev, the Academy was named after national leader Heydar Aliyev, taking into account his invaluable services in the field of training personnel for security agencies and in the development of national security agencies. On March 27, 2006, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev opened a monument to national leader Heydar Aliyev, the Glory Museum and personally presented the Academy with a symbol of valor - the Battle Banner.

By Decree No. 706 dated December 14, 2015, signed by President Ilham Aliyev, in order to increase the efficiency of the special services and improve the structure of public administration, the State Security Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan were established on the basis of the Ministry of National Security of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Currently, the material and technical base of the Academy includes educational and administrative buildings equipped with modern technical means and equipment, libraries, cadet dormitories, clubs with audio-video equipment and a cultural and community complex, sports halls equipped with the necessary equipment and exercise machines, a Sports and Health Complex with a stadium, running tracks and a swimming pool, a medical service, cadet and officer canteens and other infrastructure.

In order to ensure the training of newly recruited personnel to the State Security Service, the Academy organizes higher courses, as well as various courses to improve the qualifications of the Service employees. In order to ensure that the employees of the State Security Service receive higher education in the specialty "Jurisprudence", the Academy provides correspondence courses.

The Heydar Aliyev State Security Service Academy stands guard over the security of the state, preparing a new generation of professional and qualified personnel, educating devoted and patriotic officers who serve the state with dignity.

In the matter of preserving and further strengthening state independence, which is the greatest achievement of the Azerbaijani people, the Heydar Aliyev State Security Service Academy faces an important task of preparing devoted officers who serve the people and the state with a high professional and intellectual level and strict executive discipline.
