Today is the professional holiday of builders in our country. According to a decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev on December 16, 2009, April 10 is celebrated annually as Builders' Day in our republic. The signing of such a decree by the head of state primarily reflects the value placed on those working in the construction industry.
Our country, with its ancient historical traditions in construction and architecture, has always attracted global attention with its material cultural monuments. Icherisheher and its valuable landmarks, such as the Maiden Tower and the Shirvanshahs' Palace Complex, have been included in UNESCO's World Heritage List. This is considered a significant contribution of Azerbaijan to the world's cultural heritage.
Construction work expanded significantly in our country in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Those buildings, which have been preserved to this day, contain rare examples of Eastern and Western architecture.
During the years when the National Leader Heydar Aliyev first led our republic, the construction sector experienced rapid growth. Under the guidance of the Great Leader, significant construction and reconstruction efforts were undertaken in oil refining and processing and the chemical and metallurgical industries, among others. The launch of the Kur Water Pipeline, metro stations, the processing complex of the New Baku Oil Refinery, the Baku Household Air Conditioner Plant, and the massive Baku Deep Water Jacket Factory in the Garadag district exemplify Heydar Aliyev's dedication and attention to development.
The construction sector faced serious challenges after Azerbaijan regained its independence in 1991. However, due to the strategic policy of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, the country embarked on a period of rapid recovery and modernization.
Under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, a worthy successor to the political legacy of the Great Leader, extensive construction and development projects are underway in Azerbaijan. The successful implementation of state programs adopted in recent years has led to the comprehensive development of the economy and a significant expansion in the scope of construction activities. Consequently, this has resulted in the creation of new job opportunities, the resolution of employment issues, and an improvement in the population's well-being.
After the liberation of our lands from occupation under the leadership of the Victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, those areas are turned into construction sites. With the Great Return program, our cities, villages, and towns are reunited with their native residents after 30 years. Karabakh and East Zangazur, devastated by the enemy, are rising again thanks to the strength of our state. New buildings are being erected here, and along with destroyed residential areas, our historical and architectural monuments are being restored. Thousands of families live in their native cities and villages after rapid reconstruction efforts.
Builders' Day is not only a professional holiday but also a day that reminds us how important this vital sector is for the country's future. Today, we express respect and gratitude to the people who beautify our cities, make our roads safer, and make our lives more comfortable. Thanks to the construction sector, Azerbaijan is moving towards sustainable development, strengthening its economy, and improving the quality of life of its citizens.
