Prominent writer, screenwriter and film director Maqsud Ibrahimbeyov

Ibrahimbeyov Magsud Mammadibrahim oghlu was born in Baku on May 11, 1935. After graduating from secondary school, he pursued higher education at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Azerbaijan Polytechnic Institute from 1955 to 1960. He later studied at the Higher Screenwriting Courses in Moscow from 1971 to 1964 and attended the Higher Director's Courses from 1971 to 1973.

Magsud Ibrahimbeyov began his career in 1960 as an engineer at the Heavy Industry Construction Trust of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Construction. He later held various positions within the organization and worked as a special correspondent for Azerbaijan at the USSR Central Television and Radio Broadcasting Committee from 1964 to 1971. In the following years, he was engaged in artistic creativity and public activities.

He was known throughout the USSR for his diverse roles as a prose writer, playwright, screenwriter, and director. His play "Mesozoic Story" won first place in the Ministry of Culture’s best plays competition. Films were made based on his scripts: "Mesozoic Story, " "An Owl Flew In, " "Summer Vacation, " "For Every Good Thing - Death!", "Who Will Go to Truskavets?", "You Are My Song, " "Because I Am Aivars Lidaks, " and others.

Books such as "Catastrophe", "A Little Joy," "Unfamiliar Song," and "Let Him Stay with Us" were published in large print runs by Moscow publishing houses. His works were translated into the languages of former USSR countries and others abroad. In 1976, he received the State Prize of the Azerbaijan SSR for his works "An Owl Flew In" and "For Every Good Thing - Death!"

The state greatly valued the writer's contributions. He received the honorary titles of "Honored Art Worker" in 1979 and "People's Writer" in 1998, and was awarded the highest state honors of the Republic of Azerbaijan: the "Istiglal, " "Sharaf," and "Shohrat" orders, in recognition of his many years of fruitful and impactful work in advancing Azerbaijani culture and literature.

Along with his artistic creativity, Magsud Ibrahimbeyov also engaged in successful social activities.  He was for a long time the president of the Azerbaijan PEN Club, the chairman of the National Peace Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the head of other public organizations. Magsud Ibrahimbeyov was elected deputy of the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis for several convocations.

On February 1, 2018, the "Magsud Ibrahimbeyov Creativity Center" was established by the Decree of the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.

Magsud Ibrahimbeyov died on March 22, 2016 in Baku. On March 23, 2016, a farewell ceremony was held at the Azerbaijan State Academic National Drama Theater, and he was buried in the 1st Alley of Honor.
