Ramiz Ayyub oghlu Guliyev was born on April 30, 1947 in Aghdam. In 1954, he entered Aghdam city 7-year music school, and from 1960 he continued his education in Aghdam secondary music school named after Uzeyir Hajibeyli. In 1964-1969, he studied at the Azerbaijan State Conservatory named after U.Hajibeyli, specialising in string orchestra and conducting.
During his studies at the Aghdam Music School he participated in many competitions and festivals as a member of the folk instruments ensemble “Shur”, and in 1961 he joined the All-Union Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy in Moscow, and was awarded medals and certificates of honour.
He was the association leader of the pioneers’ home in the district on tar speciality and the head of the music department of the Aghdam Drama Theatre named after Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev. He worked in Aghdam No.1 music school in 1963-1964, and Baku No.1 and 20 music schools in 1965-1974. In 1974-1992, he worked as a teacher, senior teacher, associate professor, professor at the folk instruments department of the Azerbaijan State Conservatory named after U.Hajibeyli. He headed the department from 1992 to 2002. Since 2004, he has been working as a senior researcher of the research laboratory “The study of traditional Azerbaijani professional music and its new directions: Organology and Acoustics”.
He gave concerts in Türkiye, Afghanistan, Syria, the Netherlands, Switzerland, GDR, Pakistan, Algeria, Tunisia, FRG, India, USA, Canada, Denmark, Iran, Iraq, France, England, Israel, Norway, etc. In 1989, he played concerts in over 30 cities in Japan as part of the Great Silk Road Festival.
In 1964-1994, he was a soloist of the Azerbaijan State Philharmonic named after M.Magomayev and the State Concert Union. He gave masterclasses at the Aegean University in Izmir of Turkey in 1994, Jerusalem, Israel in 1997, and Tehran State University of Culture and Arts in 2002. In 1981 and 1984 he was elected deputy of the Council of People’s Deputies of Nasimi district of the 18th and 19th convocations.
He was awarded the honorary title “Honoured Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR” in 1982, “People’s Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR” in 1988, the “Humay” award in 1993, the Order of Glory on May 14, 2007, the State Prize of the Republic of Azerbaijan on May 26, 2014, and the Order of Honour on May1, 2017.
